Moths

August 1, 2017

Who would have thought that things on the Lepidoptera front could get more exciting?

Well, I bring you news of a new initiative: Moths in Churchyards (MIC)

We have been collecting records in Sutterby for some time but feel that some comparative data from other local churchyards would be interesting.

So armed with our new moth trap and our Mother Superior we are striking out in August under cover of darkness to collect records from other ecclesiastical locations.

If you would be interested in taking part, please let me know. You are not required to spend the night out of doors, however we do need to convene usually by 9am in the morning to count and record. There is no requirement or expectation for you to attend each meeting and no previous experience or knowledge required.

Thank you to Father Peter Coates for acceding to yet another strange Sutterby request and thank you to the church wardens, who have given their permission for us to venture with a light into the darkness.

Don't worry, if you can't make the actual meetings as full details and records will be posted.

Here's your opportunity to see Abrostola tripartita - it's quite a spectacle..

Speaking of which, please find attached the records from the July Sutterby moth count.
