Spirit of Sutterby is a community project . Our goals are to explore this village and research its past, record its present and help with its future.

Spirit of SUTTERBY

Community Project

Sutterby is a small hamlet lost in a fold of the Lincolnshire Wolds just down the road from Langton-by-Spilsby and Harrington. There is a small church, a very overgrown churchyard and a handful of houses. But what used to be there? We do know it is a deserted medieval village with the humps and bumps to prove it - there are a lot of archival records holding key information to the village's past.

Friends of Friendless Churches

Friends of Friendless Churches is a very small charity which saves redundant historic churches. They own over 40 former places of worship, including St. John The Baptist church here at Sutterby, which they preserve as peaceful spaces for visitors and the local community to enjoy.

Most are medieval, and all of them are listed.

Heritage Lincolnshire

A community heritage project hosted by Heritage Lincolnshire and funded by Heritage Lottery Fund and Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service.

The Harrington Estate

Most of the settlement of Sutterby is situated on private land which forms part of The Harrington Estate, without whose kind co-operation this project would not have been possible.

Visitors should note that access to the land, apart from the Church and Churchyard is not possible without the specific permission of the estate manager.

Please do not park in the farm yard or in front of the barns.
